About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a commanding Bundesliga performance, 1899 Hoffenheim dismantled Borussia Mönchengladbach with a resounding 5-1 victory. This result was somewhat unexpected given the competitive nature of the Bundesliga, but Hoffenheim's clinical execution left no room for doubt. The match began with Hoffenheim asserting their dominance early on. Andrej Kramarić (GAP +0.1%) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, setting the tone for the home side. Just two minutes later, Tim Lemperle doubled the lead, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Mönchengladbach. Kramarić struck again on the stroke of halftime, giving Hoffenheim a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break. Mönchengladbach managed to pull one back in the 69th minute through substitute Shuto Machino, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed. Max Moerstedt, another substitute, added Hoffenheim's fourth in the 77th minute, sealing the victory in style. Tactically, Hoffenheim's manager made effective use of his substitutes, with Max Moerstedt and others coming off the bench to maintain the team's momentum. The defensive solidity provided by Ozan Kabak (GAP +2.3%) and the attacking prowess of Vladimír Coufal (GAP +4.9%) were instrumental in this comprehensive win. Borussia Mönchengladbach's lineup saw several changes, with Shuto Machino and Kevin Stöger coming in as substitutes. However, these adjustments were insufficient to turn the tide against a rampant Hoffenheim side. This victory propels Hoffenheim further up the Bundesliga table, boosting their confidence as they continue their campaign. For Mönchengladbach, this defeat serves as a wake-up call, highlighting areas that need urgent attention if they are to improve their league standing. Post-match reactions praised Hoffenheim's attacking flair and criticized Mönchengladbach's defensive frailties. The result leaves Hoffenheim in a strong position moving forward, while Mönchengladbach must regroup and address their shortcomings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
